Hey, this is People Watching, where we help you discover under-the-radar people.
People:
Deanna Dikeman has photographed her midwestern family and surroundings since 1985, when she left a corporate job to try a photography class. You can see her work here.
Andy Kong is currently engaged in a “year of output.” He writes about this here: “It is 2024, and I am leaving my grad studies. I have no job prospects, and no startup money. I have enough savings for a year of living. If my life were a company, this would be my runway. To extend the analogy, I am trying to find Andy-Market Fit.” You can read about his journey here (as he explores human augmentation, computational photography, and personal informatics).
Helena Rosengarten is working to understand and improve complex biological systems. She’s an md/phd @charité berlin. She wrote about solving sleep here. And here’s a learning challenge she did (where she tried to learn a lot about complicated topics over a few weeks).
Nathan Goldwag has a lot of “eclectic interests, which include history, politics, vexillology, science fiction, alternate history, classics, social issues, and the various ways in which these intersect.” He’s always loved “Alternate History, and for years now one of his hobbies has been making maps of some of the scenarios he envisions. It’s a fun way to think about history, plotting out the “What Ifs” and potential twists and turns. Collected here are some of the maps he’s made, along with brief explanations of the historical background and thought process that went into creating them.”
Nolen Royalty likes to build “weird stuff.” Here’s a list of projects he’s built - including a range of games to social experiments. He also used to work at Jane Street.
Daniel Gális is a designer (researcher, developer) on a mission to “create digital tools that empower communities and individuals.” He has a creative approach to habit tracking which he describes here. He also thinks a lot about his relationship with technology.
